Mediq was OPG Groep

The change of the name of our holding from OPG Groep to Mediq per 9 April 2009 is part of the name- and housestyle change that we have been working on as a group since the end of 2005.

Name in line with our strategy
Due to acquisitions of other companies and changes in the market, the past few years have seen us grow into an internationally operating retail and distribution business for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. Into much more than only a Dutch pharmaceutical wholesaler, which is what OPG (which originally stood for ‘Onderlinge Pharmaceutische Groothandel’, or Cooperative Pharmaceutical Wholesaler) was usually chiefly associated with. We want to present ourselves as an organisation for which the end user is at the heart of everything we do and to whom we can deliver healthcare through a range of different channels. The name Mediq accordingly represents the essence of our strategy. One organisation, one image, both externally and internally.

Uniform brand architecture and house style
More than in the past, albeit while retaining local entrepreneurship and the close ties that our pharmacies and direct businesses have with their customers, we act jointly. For instance in developing new services, purchasing and logistics. To maximise our success in doing so, we need to project greater unity. We have therefore opted for a structure of three group brands that are aligned with our three distribution channels and clearly belong to a single family: Mediq Pharmacy, Mediq Direct and Mediq Institutional. The new, associated house style is identical for all group companies.

The changes
In the Netherlands the majority of our 230 pharmacies now operate under the Mediq Pharmacy brand. Most other parts of the business in the Netherlands also adopted the new house style in 2008. In some cases our activities start under the Mediq brand from the outset, for instance in the case of Mediq Direct Diabetes. We are also introducing the new brand and associated house style in our international activities. The name Mediq has already been introduced in Germany and Denmark and a growing number of our pharmacies in Poland and Belgium are also working in accordance with the Mediq Pharmacy formula. The other countries will follow in the near future.
