Community involvement

As a company active in healthcare, we are very aware of our social role.

We demonstrate our social involvement among others with projects for youngsters with diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic condition that has a major impact on young people's lives. Every day, youngsters with diabetes need to measure their blood sugar levels and administer insulin. They always and everywhere need to take this into account.

Mediq can make a difference. With our knowledge and in collaboration with among others diabetes children’s nurses, we organise various projects to put heart into these youngsters, and their parents.

www.diabetesshout.nl is a website where they can freely vent their feelings: when they are insecure or happy, when they wish to ignore their parents, diabetes nurses and doctors, or to ask questions that are answered by other young people.

Mediq has also organized theatre shows for youngsters with diabetes, in collaboration with the Dutch Diabetes Fund. In ‘Candy’ Izaira Kersten and Floris Tilburg are on stage, directed by Barry Atsma. 'Candy' makes young people with diabetes look at themselves, in a theatrical way. The scenes are about their lives. ‘Candy’ shows people directly involved what it is like to have diabetes. With its annoying, but also with its humorous side. ‘Candy’ helps to understand the perceptions and feelings of adolescents with diabetes.

For 2011 Mediq is planning to implement similar projects in the US, Denmark and Germany. In Germany, summer camps are organised for children with diabetes and a specific programme is organised in Chernobyl for children with diabetes.

Additionally Mediq supports small-scale projects, locally or to developing countries, by delivering pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. Mediq Norge has a unit that specialises in supplying mobile field hospitals, which are provided to the Norwegian army and the Red Cross.
