Mediq Pharmacist Willem van de Spijker ‘Care talent’ of the year

Healthcare magazine ‘Zorgvisie’ has votedmanaging pharmacist Willem van de Spijker of Mediq Pharmacy 't Heelhuis in Helmond, the most talented young care manager of the year. The 31-year-old Willem van de Spijker wins this title with his project 'Diafarmazob', in which GPs and pharmacists work closely together to optimize the use of pharmaceuticals of people with diabetes.

Diafarmazob improves the pharmacotherapy of patients with diabetes. It is a good example of constructive cooperation between pharmacists, GPs and a health insurer, resulting in medication being adjusted for instance for kidney function or cholesterol, helping to limit the use of expensive pharmaceuticals and avoiding inappropriate use of pharmaceuticals.

Jury chairman Martin van Rijn (CEO PGGM): "Van de Spijker is a energetic manager who wants to excel at what he does. Thanks to him we see what the role of the pharmacist can be." The election took place after the in total three nominees had given a presentation about their project at the Zorgvisie Convention. Willem van de Spijker wins the Zorgvisie Grow/work Talent of the Year award.

Mediq currently operates 229 pharmacies in the Netherlands. Mediq Pharmacy is the largest pharmacy chain in the Netherlands.
