Launch of Diabetes 24/7 photo competition as a build-up to World Diabetes Day
After last year’s success, the World Diabetes Day Platform is once again challenging professional and amateur photographers to illustrate diabetes. The World Diabetes Day Platform organises Diabetes 24/7 in cooperation with Mediq. With the photo competition, Mediq asks for special attention for young people with diabetes. Photos can be submitted via http://www.diabetes24-7.nl through to 14 October.
Diabetes is an invasive, chronic disorder that you must always take into account, everywhere you go. Diabetes is often invisible to other people, but it has a major impact on people’s daily lives. With the Diabetes 24/7 photo competition, the World Diabetes Day Platform aims to give a face to diabetes, using images that show all aspects of the disease. As the social partner in the photo competition, Mediq paid special attention to photos that show the combination of young people and diabetes.
As a company in the healthcare sector, Mediq is very much aware of its social responsibilities. As such, Mediq supports projects for young people with diabetes, among others. As the social partner in the photo competition, Mediq is mainly looking for photos that show the combination of young people and diabetes.
Prizes
The competition is open to everyone who likes to take pictures: professional photographers as well as amateurs; there is a special category for youngsters under 18. The prizes are money, cameras, photography master classes by Corbino and iPads. The winning photographs will be on show in an exhibition from November 2011. A selection of the submissions can currently be found at www.diabetes24-7.nl and in a travelling exhibition.
Jury
An expert jury will announce the winners on 14 November, World Diabetes Day. Just like last year, the jury will be chaired by the inspiring top photographer Corbino: “I am very pleased with the second year of Diabetes 24/7. The 2010 edition yielded more than 300 submissions, and naturally we will focus on getting even more pictures this year to draw attention to living with diabetes.” The full composition of the jury will be announced on 6 June.
