Philips takes important step in GP services by partnering with Mediq

Utrecht, November 20, 2014

Philips and Medisch Service Nederland, a Mediq business unit, announced a partnership agreement today for the delivery and maintenance of a broad portfolio of ultrasound equipment to GPs. Doctors will now be able to perform many common diagnostic procedures in their office, allowing them to provide their patients with more targeted treatment or refer them to a specialist.

As the quality, flexibility and cost effectiveness of ultrasound technology continue to improve, it is becoming an increasingly important part of diagnostic practices. The number of GPs who use ultrasound technology in their examinations is also increasing. They can use ultrasound for e.g. stomach, intestinal and liver examinations of their patients.

For Philips, this collaboration represents a new step in primary healthcare in the Netherlands. For more than 20 years, Medisch Service Nederland has been supplying medical consumables, instruments and equipment to GPs, midwives and other care providers. Together, the two organizations can provide the growing group of doctors who want to use ultrasound technology in their practices with professional service that encompasses the latest technologies, maintenance and training.

“We see a growing need among GPs for the use of medical imaging in their practice to increase the quality and efficiency of their services at a time when the demand for healthcare is rising significantly, and we need to find ways to provide every patient with targeted, quality care, both today and in the future,” says Henk Valk, General Manager of Philips Healthcare Benelux. “This partnership and the services we have developed enable us to optimally support doctors in providing those services.”

Since 2011, Medisch Service Nederland has been a part of Mediq, which collaborates internationally with healthcare professionals on initiatives to increase efficiency in healthcare. “Medisch Service Nederland has been a partner to GPs for more than 20 years. This collaboration with Philips now offers us the possibility to take Philips’ proven technology out of hospitals and into doctors’ offices,” says Ronald Hoozemans, Managing Director of Mediq Medeco and Medisch Service Nederland.

Philips and Medisch Service Nederland will be demonstrating various compact ultrasound systems at the NGH Conference “Dokteren doe je niet alleen” (Doctoring takes a team) on Friday, November 21, in the RAI in Amsterdam.
