Handy app saves nurses lots of time
Mediq CombiCare’s new Scan App puts an end to completing time-consuming order and accountability forms for continence products. By using this handy app on a tablet it now takes urology and continence nurses only 90 seconds to order these medical aids and without any errors. Time and attention can now be spent on patients rather than on filling out forms by hand.
Mediq teams up with care professionals to develop initiatives for improving efficiency within the care sector. The Scan App is just one of its products that makes a difference.
Eveline de Ruijter, nurse at the Beatrix Hospital in Gorinchem The Netherlands, has used Mediq CombiCare’s Scan App for a while now and has enjoyed the benefits in her daily work. “I can complete forms much faster with the Scan App than by hand and it is easy to use. Immediately after I scan the QR code, the content of the medical aids package is displayed on the screen. The app also reduces the number of mistakes to zero: accountability forms are no longer returned, which in turn saves time and a lot of frustration! And, more importantly: I can now dedicate more time and attention to patients.”
30,000 patients
Every year more than 30,000 patients in the Netherlands are given a starter kit containing continence products upon being discharged from hospital. The kit contains essential medical aids, such as catheter items or absorbent continence aids. But it takes up a lot of the nurses’ time to order the items, complete accountability forms for healthcare insurers, and to check and deliver these starter kits. Time that is in short supply.
The Scan App is quick and easy to use. “Nurses in five hospitals are currently using the Scan App to their complete satisfaction,” says Bas Brookman, Mediq CombiCare product manager. “Mediq makes the tablet and the app available to nurses. The Scan App is not linked to the hospital’s IT system and can therefore be used wherever the nurse happens to be. We are continuously improving the app’s functionality and are investigating whether we can use the system for other medical aids in the hospital as well.”
Mediq CombiCare will present its latest version of the Scan App during the jubilee symposium on the occasion of the V&VN Urology Nurses 15th anniversary on 21 November 2014 at the CineMec in Ede.
The Scan App is an example of how Mediq and care professionals aim to improve efficiency within the care sector. Mediq CombiCare is the market leader in ostomy and continence products and wound treatment products and has partnered hospitals and nurses for more than 15 years.
